More Yarn

So I took today off to get a smog check, and decided to go hit The Knitting Room in San Jose - lovey store run by friendly people! I picked up some Lorna's Laces Shepard Sock yarn in colorway "Shadow", another I can't remember the name of at the moment, and some Panda Silk in a nice light brown. The Panda Silk keeps calling to me to pet it, it's so soft.

I'm going to get more done on my sweater before I start with any of these though!

Crafty things

So it's still "feistycrochet.blogspot.com" but I've changed the display to "feistykitty's yarn craft blog" - this is because I'm knitting more than crocheting now! I've made one pair of socks, and am working on my first sweater, and a scarf!

I'm still crocheting too, currently working on a baby blanket - it's a 12-pointed star done mostly black with some white rows to set off the pattern (and give the baby something interesting to look at!)

That's all for now.

The Lion

My niece, Alondra needs some attention too, with all the goings-on with Mateo. She also just broke her arm (hairline fracture, not even a cast, but still broken). Before she broke her arm, I made her a lion. I thought about using one of the lion patterns to make a big lion, but then decided to make a small one, since I'm going to make a doll for her birthday (like Tori's but with Alondra's coloring) - shhh! It's a surprise. So for lack of a pattern, I just winged it and came up with this:

There are more pictures of everything on my flickr account.

I'm now working on a doll for my niece Madison (shh!) and have finished the legs, body and most of the head (I may add more hair, and the mouth needs doing. I hate doing mouths.) No pics of it yet, but soon.

The Bunny

My nephew Mateo has recently been diagnosed with leukemia, so I decided to make him a bunny. Less to make him feel better (he was showered with gifts from everyone) but more to make me feel better. Like I was doing something. (Anyhow, I think he liked the Orca I got him a whole lot more - he named it "Lovey"!)

Anyhow, here's the nice little bunny I made:

Doll for Tori

My niece Tori turned 5 in May. For her birthday I made her a doll, made to look somewhat like her. The pattern is from the Amigurumi Doll Pattern by Soph Viklund. (Beautiful pattern!!)

The real Tori:

And her doll:

Sun Hat

I made a hat to wear on my walks at work. I used the Fast & Easy crocheted summer hat with brim pattern and some Red Heart yarn my friend Karen gave me.

Update? Yes, Update!

It's a slow day at work, so I figure I'll sneak in some updates... I've finished a few projects, so I'll post with pictures here.

Hooray!

Yarn, Yarn, Yarn!

I'm proud of myself - I haven't bought any more yarn in two weeks!! I really need to finish some of my UFO's (un-finished objects) before I can start using any more of my new yarn, much less BUY any more new yarn! I finally bought a big plastic bin in which to store my yarn, and filled it up completely already.

Tonight is Stitch-N-Bitch with my friend Karen, we generally get together about once a week or so, to just work on our projects and hang out.

I'm currently working on two things - an afghan for a co-worker (yep, another) and a shawl for another co-worker's wife. The afghan is being made with yarn karen gave me, and the shawl with a "superfine" weight alpaca yarn in a lovely dark red. I have two more afghans I want to work on, but I'm going to finish at least one of my current projects before I start another. Really, I will!

Purple and Red, Complete!

I've completed one of the blankets I've been working on! It's for a woman I work with who loves purple, and I know she's going to love it.

This was done with Lion Brand Color Waves in Purple Vista and Sunset Red (apparently discontinued?). The pattern is the Sideways Shells pattern from Project Linus. I'm very happy with how this turned out. Yay!

Pictures, Last Post

And the new yarns I'm not playing with yet... The first one is from the yarnkoo seller, a nice variegated peach/green/violet mixture the label says the brand is "Leisure Time Yarn".

Next is the "wine gray" from the jojosquare ebay seller - brand is "Jojoland".
Finally, the Burgundy from jojosquare. It's hard to tell from my photos, but the burgundy is about the same deep red as is mixed in the "wine gray", so I think they'll complement each other well.

And here's the Bernat "Rose Garden" - I really like this one! Again, this is using the same "sideways shells" pattern as the Color Waves, easy and fast, and looks nice with the variegated colors.

Pictures, Post 2

And here's the Color Waves. Because it's a bouclé, the definition of the stitches isn't really clear - it makes for a very fuzzy sort of fabric when done, but soft and comfy.

Pictures, Post 1

OK, first the finished product, the afghan for Tim and Traci. Of course, the cats have decided it's theirs. Guido's the orange one, Mia the gray (if anyone didn't know).

New Blog!

So I've been doing a lot of crochet lately (switched from knitting) and I thought I'd start to log my efforts. I'll take some pictures as I go along, and post them here. Unfortunately, I've already given away the first crochet afghan I made. I used Lion Brand Homespun in Tudor (see left) - the image doesn't do it justice at all though, it is a variegated color that changes through blue, purple, pink, blue and sometimes even yellow. I basically made one HUGE granny square (sort of like this). I gave that one to my boss and his wife as a late Christmas gift.

I have another one I made for my brother- and sister-in-law, Tim and Traci and my niece and nephew, Alondra and Mateo. I'll post a picture of it sometime soon. It's based on the 5 1/2 hour throw pattern from Lion Brand Yarn. I used Lion Brand Homespun for that one too, you'll see the color as soon as I get a picture posted.

The ones I'm working on now are two. I have one I'm making for a co-worker who LOVES purple, so I'm using another Lion Brand yarn, called Color Waves. I have a purple and a red, so it's purple with red stripes. I'm using a patter I found through Project Linus called the "Sideways Shell Baby Afghan". I haven't yet made a blanket to donate to Project Linus, but because I'm using their pattern, I will soon.

I have another blanket I'm doing with the same pattern, using a standard white acrylic yarn, and a nice soft variegated acrylic Bernat yarn, I think the color is called "Rose Garden" - it changes through various greens and rose colors. I'm using the colored yarn as the base, and the white for thin stripes. Again, pictures will be added later.

Lately I've been addicted to buying yarn on eBay. I got the Lion Brand Colorwaves via an auction a few months ago. The Homespun I used for the Boss' blanket and the one I'm giving to the B- and S-in-law, as well as the knitted afghans I made for Mom, Dad, and my mother- and father-in-law, I got a couple of years ago from an auction, too. Recently I've purchased the Bernat "rose garden" yarn and some beautiful high-end type wool yarn in a couple different colors. Again, more pictures to follow.

So that's it for now, I'll continue updating, hopefully, on a regular basis.
